Cath - It is easy to find Cath relatable if you are any sort of nerd. Be it Harry Potter, Marvel, Star Wars, or anything. As someone who deals with anxiety myself, I can say Rowell makes it seem legit. Her love of writing and fanfiction is something to aspire too.

Levi- I'm not the biggest Levi fan. He's an agricultural student who doesn't read, and his best friend is Cath's roomate. To me he wasn't all that interesting, but then he would say something that would surprise you. I think the idea is that opposites attract in terms of Levi and Cath.

Regan - This girl is such a bad ass. I loved her roommate relationship with Cath. One of my favorite lines comes from her in "What the fuck is a fandom". She's like the goth girl with a soft side. I wouldn't want to piss her off.

Wren - As Cath's twin, I expected better behavior from her. I didn't like how she was putting so much pressure on Cath about college. Yes, she cares about her sister. But it took alcohol poisoning for her to get her shit together. I'd like to think she and Cath still write fan-fic together after the book ends.

Cath's Father - He's a little crazy but I like him. I actually thought Rowell might kill him off to get Cath to be more independent. Glad that's not the case. And "Fucking Kelly" lol.

Cath's Mother - Not worth much thought. Who leaves on September 11th for gods sake! I do wish Cath would at least be on speaking terms with her though. It's sad she isn't.

Professor Piper - Fiction Writing Professor and published author! This women basically has my life goals. I loved everything she said about writing. The scene where her and Cath argue about fan-fic was so interesting. Some of my favorite scenes come from this character, even if she's a bit to pushy.

Nick - He may have been a jerk in the end, but not terrible as characters go. I think he and Cath did make good writing partners. Besides his flaws, I would ship him with myself. But they did work on that novel together so he shouldn't get solo credit so I don't know. In my head he was cute.

Abel - Don't tell her the girls dame ACT score when "dumping" here. What an end table.

Simon and Baz - In the fan-fic world of Cath's, I was in love with them. Read Carry On if you want more of that.

Plot
I will be brief. The whole world Rainbow created brought me back to the Harry Potter years. We loved the books and movies, obsessed over the characters lives, and even wrote fan-fic. There was merch and midnight releases. We are a fandom, and Cath represents many of us in how we felt in the Potter years (But lets not forget The Cursed Child). This book has made me want to write fan-fic of my own.

Setting
This is the reality of how college is. It's so similar to that of my own that I could cry. Omaha is like a small town farm country, and I don't know much about that but it is quaint.

Writers Perspective
Rowell did mostly everything right here. She developed her setting and world building very well. You could feel the difference between Cath writing Simon and Baz, and that of the author. The development of her charactors rings a special tone in my ear. Where Rainbow excells though is in her passionate writing of all things fandom. Nerds everywhere bow down to her in letting us relieve our fandom feels. Writers would love how she talks about the subject of writing through Cath, Nick, and Professor Piper.
